Two faculty members in the Haslam College of Business’ graduate and executive education programs recently announced their intent to retire. Michael J. Stahl, the William B. Stokely Professor of Business, and Glenn D. Swift, a lecturer in the Department of Management and Stokely Faculty Scholar, will officially leave their posts on Dec. 31, 2015.
Stahl has served as director of the Physician Executive MBA program since its inception in 1997. The program rose to be recognized nationally as the premier executive MBA for physicians under his leadership, and a new faculty fellowship was named in his honor this August.
“It has been a rare and enjoyable privilege to help grow this program over 18 years,” Stahl said. Kate Atchley, a distinguished lecturer and executive director of Haslam’s executive MBA programs, will assume Stahl’s responsibilities.
“I am honored that Mike is entrusting me with PEMBA,” Atchley said. “He’s worked tirelessly to create a world-class program, and because of his vision and efforts, PEMBA alumni are influencing health care delivery around the globe. We are grateful he’ll continue to be part of the PEMBA faculty.”
Glenn Swift joined the Department of Management in 2003, primarily working with the full-time MBA program. He served as its interim director and championed the new entrepreneurship and innovation track, which was ranked 17th in the nation by Bloomberg Businessweek.
Swift co-mentored 61 new student business ventures with faculty partner Pat Richardson during his tenure. “Under Glenn’s leadership of [the entrepreneurship track], every MBA student has graduated from Haslam with the opportunity to be part of a real world consulting project and with skill development in benchmarking, strategy, professional communication and critical thinking,” said Amy Cathey, aerospace and defense division lead for graduate and executive education and former executive director of the full-time MBA program.
Stahl will continue teaching and recruiting part-time for the PEMBA program after retiring, while Swift plans to enjoy time with his family and continue pursuit of his dreams.
