Four University of Tennessee, Knoxville, College of Business Administration alumni were honored on May 4 at the Pinnacle Business Awards, which recognize outstanding businesses and businesspeople from East Tennessee. Founded in 2005, the awards program is directed by the Knoxville Chamber Board of Directors. Winners are presented at the annual Pinnacle Business Awards Gala to over 500 attendees.
1969 alumnus Larry Martin, retired COO of First Tennessee Financial Services and former top deputy to two Knoxville mayors, was honored with the James A. Haslam II Leadership Award. Martin is active within the University of Tennessee, serving various boards including the Baker Center Associates, UT Foundation Board, and Chancellor’s Associates.
1972 alumna Sharon Miller Pryse was awarded the Woman-Owned Business Excellence Award for her founding of The Trust Co., which has 54 employees and manages assets totaling approximately $1.6 billion. Pryse has served the university through her work on the Development Council, UT Foundation Board, Chancellor’s Associates, the Department of Finance Advisory Council, and the College of Business Administration Campaign Committee.

Spouses Dane (1997) and Meg (1992) Scism were honored with the Large Business Excellence Award for their company, Cellular Sales. The company, founded in 1993, is the country’s largest Verizon Wireless premium wireless retailer.
